Artists FAQs
Once I join what should I do next?
We suggest you get your masterpieces organized before trying to load anything onto the site. For each masterpiece you intend to sell on the site you will want to prepare the following:
Format a web friendly .gif(see below)
Format the high resolution JPEG master image(see below)
Name your masterpiece
Write a short description about the masterpiece
Create a list of search terms you want to associate with the image. Separate the terms with a comma and space. Do not use returns in this list.
Select category you want the masterpiece displayed under.
Once you have your masterpieces organized we suggest you take time to create a profile about yourself and supply a picture so buyers learn more about you and your work.
When you have finished getting everything organized, login to the site with the username and password you created when you joined. From there you add your masterpieces to the site via the Manage Masterpieces menu selection and create your Artist profile via the Modify Artist Bio menu selection.
What size or format image file should I upload?
To sell your work on Art-On-Demand please prepare two files for upload for each item you sell on the site. One file is a web friendly .gif for display throughout the site and the second is your high resolution .jpeg master file which is stored in its original form for download to each buying customer.

For your master file, the bigger the better (within reason). Art-On-Demand wants, high-resolution original files for those customers who plan to print your masterpieces rather than strictly display them on electronic devices. We currently support JPEG file formats, and don’t accept TIFF or PDFs. We recommend performing all your editing in a lossless format such as TIFF and then saving the final version as a JPEG for upload and sale on the site. This will keep any editing from degrading your files, but allow you to have quicker uploads. We will never edit or change the files that you upload, so there’s no JPEG degradation.
What matters most is the number of pixels of your image — file size (in MB) is not a good indicator of whether a file is suitable for printing.
Very Important Notes:
Please do not manually change the pixel dimensions of your image - the products will come out looking blocky and horribly pixelated.
If your image size or format is not right, this might restrict you from selling some products.
How do I create a web friendly/thumbnail for uploading?
Creating a Thumbnail using Adobe Photoshop
Step 1: Open Adobe Photoshop. Open the file you want to make a web friendly thumbnail for.
Step 2: Click on File > Save For Web. The "Save For Web" window will appear. Default is in a tab on the right side of your screen. Click on Image Size (in small letters). A small window will appear that lists the dimensions of your image.
Step 3: Click in the “Width” box and adjust the image’s width to a smaller size (make sure the "constrain proportions" box is checked, the image’s original proportions will be retained). An image size of 480:270 is the smallest you want to supply to insure it displays properly throughout the site. When finished, click on "Apply". The image size will reduce. When satisfied with the new image dimensions, click on “OK”.
Step 4: A window will appear that will allow you to name and save the new smaller image (your new thumbnail). Use the same name you used for your master image. It will be saved with a .gif extension. When completed, click “Save”. When saved, locate and open the image to examine your finished product.
You are now ready to upload the two files to Art-On-Demand.com
My work is not in a 16:9 aspect ratio. What can I do so it can be sold on Art-On-Demand.com?
Get creative! Use an editing program to create borders/mattes for your masterpieces(keep in mind the inside edges don’t have to be straight as we are used to seeing with traditional matting techniques). Group several masterpieces together to form a new masterpiece in the 16:9 aspect ratio. Cut a subsection of your masterpiece out of the original. Combine all of the above.

Customers will enjoy your artwork by downloading it for display on their preferred electronic display device or by taking the file with the included Usage Rules Certificate to a printer to have a print made for their personal use.

No, customers are purchasing high resolution masterpieces for their personal use. How the customer chooses to display your work is their decision. That is one of the great benefits of selling via Art-On-Demand.com. You create your masterpieces and each customer has the opportunity to enjoy them in a variety of ways that best fit their needs/wants.
