The unicorn is the only fabulous beast that does not seem to have been conceived out of human fears. In even the earliest references the beast is fierce yet good, selfless yet solitary, but always mysteriously beautiful. Since the unicorn has long been associated with healing, I chose it as the first in a series of healing digital paintings created especially for Art-On-Demand. Creating ART that serves as a tool for healing is a focus of mine. I think calmness and hope is very much needed in this topsy-turvy, ever-changing world of ours. DESCRIPTION AND MEANING: In the foreground stands a maiden caressing the purple muzzle of a large white unicorn. The relationship of maiden to unicorn couples virtue with strength of mind. The scene is deep autumn: the sunlight filters through the trees, creating bursts of brilliance wherever the sun beams dance. The shimmering water reflects the dazzling colors of the trees and the splendor of multi-colored leaves. The unicorn is a water animal—it is lunar and its single horn is able to detect poison in water. The lunar power of the unicorn is complementary to the solar power of the lion. The main healing property of its horn is to render poison harmless. From the unicorn’s brow--the seat of the intellect--grows a single spiral horn. As it twists towards a sharp tip, the horn gradates from deep purple to almost white. The unicorn’s cloven hooves are also shades of purple, fringed by long white tufts of hair. The unicorn’s tail most closely resembles that of a lion. Its white tail, long soft mane and beard glisten brilliantly in the light. MANIFESTING HARMONY, GOODNESS, AND PURITY: According to the ancient Taoist Chinese, the unicorn is one of the four Spiritually Endowed Creatures and represents the essence of the five elements. The unicorn signifies gentleness, benevolence, good will, felicity, longevity, wise administration, grandeur and illustrious offspring. During the painting process, I meditated upon the above-mentioned qualities and deliberately encoded those traits energetically within every pixel of the painting. I believe these qualities can be accessed and generated within the lives of those who can access and resonate with it. |
